Abstract: Wireless sensor network (WSN) infrastructure and protocols change
according to the application needs. To achieve the best performance of the WSN,
its operation should be adapted to the application needs. We propose a
middleware for WSNs that provides a layer between applications and the network.
The middleware offers a standard mechanism for representing user queries,
sensor tasks and data. It also provides an automatic choice of the best network
configuration and data dissemination strategy. Users are able to access the WSN
without worrying about the underlying infrastructure and software. From the
WSN perspective, the system provides the best match between communication
protocols and application requirements.

Abstract: The increasing development of the Wireless MAN technologies will allow
the exchange of services directly among subscriber stations. Schemes to assure the
safety of services should preferably adopt a distributed architecture, such as the
Reputation System architectures, commonly used in P2P, in order to keep the network
scalability. This work proposes the use of a service oriented Reputation System based
on fuzzy logic, as a solution for increasing the safety level of a Wireless MAN.

Abstract: There is a wide range of applications for wireless sensor networks (WSNs) with different needs. The network infrastructure and data dissemination protocol change according to each specific application requirement. To achieve the best network performance, it is important to adapt the network operation to the application needs. We propose a middleware system for WSNs, which provides a layer between user applications and the network. Such middleware offers an automatic choice of the network configuration and data dissemination strategy.

Abstract: The current sensor networks are designed for specific applications, having strongly coupled data communication protocols. The future sensor networks are envisioned as comprising heterogeneous devices assisting to a large range of applications. To achieve this goal, a new architecture approach is needed, having application specific features separated from the data communication protocol, while influencing its behavior. We propose a Web Services approach for the design of sensor networks, in which sensor nodes are service providers and applications are clients of such services.  Our main goal is to enable a flexible architecture in which sensor networks data can be accessed by users spread all over the world.

Abstract: The current wireless  sensor networks (WSN) are assumed to be designed for specific applications, having data communication protocols strongly coupled to applications. The future WSN are envisioned as comprising of heterogeneous devices assisting to a large range of applications. To achieve this goal, a flexible middleware layer is needed, separating application specific features from the data communication protocol, while allowing applications to influence the WSN behavior for energy efficiency. We propose a service-based middleware system for WSNs. In our proposal, sensor nodes are service providers and applications are clients of such services.  Our main goal is to enable an interoperability layer among applications and sensor networks, among different sensors in a WSN and eventually among different WSN spread all over the world.
