Additional Info: The MRC-5 cell line was derived from normal lung tissue of a 14 week-old male fetus, cells are capable of attaining 42-46 population doubling before senescence. Comparative studies showed that MRC-5 cells replicate more rapidly and are less sensitive to adverse enviromental factors than WI-38 cells. Like WI-38 cells, they are suceptible to a wide range of human viruses, and are siutable for the production of viral vaccines and senescense studies.
