Culture Medium: Dulbecco's MEM with 4.5 g/L glucose, 95%; fetal bovine serum 5% and insulin at 0.1 U/mL. Subculture procedure: standard trypsinization techniques. A split ratio of 1:3 to 1:6 is recommended.
Consigner: European Collection of Animal Cell Culture; through Dr. Wanderley de Souza, Instituto de Biofisica, UFRJ, Rio de Janeiro.
Reference: J. Cell Biol. 80: 248-265, 1979.
Additional Info: These normal rat epithelial cells from the small intestine should undergo at least 15 population doubling. IEC-6 cells synthesize collagen and fibronectin, their growth is inhibited by cortisol, and they possess cell surface antigens specific for intestinal epithelial cells in vivo.
