Additional Info: Hela was the first aneuploid, epithelial-like cell line to be derived from human tissue and maintained continously by serial culture. It was isolated in 1951 from an adenocarcinoma of the cervix uteri of a 31 year-old Negro female. Since its origin, it has been one of the most widely studied cell lines.
