Spleen cells were fused with myeloma cells.
The antibody reacts with an acetylated ganglioside common to pancreatic islet cells, neurons, adrenal medulla, thyroid follicle renal glomerulus, human T lymphocytes and a majority of cells in the pituitary.
The antibody reacts with an O-acetylated disialoganglioside present on a wide variety of endocrine and neuronal tissues. In addition, the antibody recognizes an antigen on human T lymphocytes that defines a subset of T cells that increases with age.
Increasing expression of the 3G5 reactive ganglioside correlates with increasing degree of differentiation of rat insulinoma cells (RIN5F).
The 3G5 antigen is expressed on microvascular pericyte plasma membranes, and is useful as a marker of pericytes in vitro.
